TuKLASan Project

At a halfway house, TuKLASan Center, street children are provided residential care, integrated rehabilitation services including educational assistance and ALS review sessions, and processed for eventual reintegration with their families and communities. The Tuklas (discovery), Kalinga (care), Laruan (play), Aralan (study) at Sanayan (training) or TuKLASan Center serves as a halfway home for street children (particularly boys) ages 15 and below who need special care at the Ma. Elena Yuchengco House, in memory of the deceased daughter of Ambassador Alfonso Yuchengco. The primary aim of the center is to provide temporary shelter for street children of Metro Manila; giving them protective care, education, and counseling; and carry out rehabilitative and preventive programs and services for these children. TuKLASan provides educational assistance to children during their stay in the center and after care when they are already reunited with their parents or adopted by kindhearted families. The paramount objective of the center is to provide education and care for street children.
Since its inception in 1991, the Center was able to help 350 children of Metro Manila and nearby provinces- an average of 20 children per year. But for this year, the center is a home for 33 street children but it can accommodate a maximum number of fifty (50) children at a given time. Location: TuKLASan CenterMa.
