Children Caring for Children Fun Run

High spirits and a cooperative weather condition set the mood Saturday, November 07, 2009 as nearly children and children right advocates participated in the ERDA initiated a fun run - "Child Run: Children Caring for Children" in celebration of Children’s Month 2009 with the theme, “Bright Child, Proteksyon ng Bata, Pananagutan ng Bansa”

Running for a cause

Sec. Esperanza Cabral of Department of Social Welfare and Development who graced the occasion reminded the children to stay healthy, productive in school and at home, and to stay away from drugs and crime related actions.

The fun run raised the level of awareness of children coming from different sectors and areas around Metro Manila where ERDA operates against discrimination, violence, abuse, and exploitations.

The fun run also provided an opportunity for children to also show their concern and solidarity for their fellow children by running side by side in the 2km and 4km course.

The fun run was possible with the cooperation and assistance of the Quezon City Circle Administration headed by Ms. Charito Planas, Northern Police District led by Capt Allan Santos, DPOS of Quezon City Hall, and Doctors from the Holy of Infant Jesus Hospital.

Atty. Joy Torres, a known child right advocate and a Board Member of ERDA together with Mr. Pieter Thys of Vlaams Internationaal Centrum (VIC) participated in the fun run.

Trophies and awards given to the winners were courtesy and through the generosity of the Councilors of Quezon City District 1, Shepherd's Voice Publication, Pepemelroti, Rotary Club of West Fairview, and the Jesuit Communications. The design of the T-Shirt was through the craftsmanship of  Bruce Balaoro.

The Fun Run was covered and broadcast by DZBB and Radio Vesitas and from print media,Inquirer and GMA online.

In the word of Fr. Pierre Tritz, "To educate a child is to give him Hope" and this country's better future.
